Nout Wellink was president of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) in 1997-2011.
As a result, he played a central role in determining Dutch and European financial and monetary policy. The CDA student Wellink became interested in economics during his law studies, during a long-term illness. He obtained his PhD in Rotterdam in 1975 and completed a successful civil service career at the Ministry of Finance. In 1982 he joined the DNB. As a successor to Duisenberg, he played an important role in the introduction of the euro. Nout Wellink holds positions at several financial institutions and has various other positions in the cultural field.
